Charles E.
, president and chief executive officer of BizRate.com, said, "Since Thanksgiving 2002 fell six calendar days later than last year's Thanksgiving, this particular three-day shopping-fest got an extra boost from having a `December day' occur in the Thanksgiving Weekend."

Sunday, December 1st, produced one of the highest online retail days for the year to date, ratcheting up $235.7 million in online sales and beating Black Friday Black Friday, Sept. 24, 1869, in U.S. history, day of financial panic. In 1869 a small group of American financial speculators, including Jay Gould and James Fisk, sought the support of federal officials of the Grant administration in a drive to corner the gold  spending (Friday, November 29), which produced a spike of $234.2 million.

from November 1st to December 1st, with sales up by 36% from $4.3 billion in 2001 to $5.9 billion in 2002. Women accounted for 62% of all online transactions -- up from 58% last November.

Nearly half (49%) of all purchases made during Thanksgiving Weekend were influenced by free shipping deals, compared to only 38% last year.

"Many consumers, exhausted from the crowds at the mall on Black Friday, decided to point their shopping carts online on Sunday, where there was no need to rummage in the discount racks to get a good deal. This year's shopper has been more deal-centric that ever and has found online shopping to be the perfect medium to deal-hunt in a civilized civ·i·lized
