Bivio Networks IP Service Platform Establishes New Performance Benchmark for Check Point Firewall-1 Software.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept 23, 2002

The Bivio 1000-CP(TM) Redefines Industry's Performance Benchmark

for All Packet Sizes

Bivio Networks(TM) announced performance test results for the Bivio 1000 IP Service Platform running Check Point(TM) Firewall-1(R) software today. The independent testing, conducted by the Tolly Group, validates that the Bivio 1000-CP accelerates Check Point's FireWall-1 software to gigabit speeds at all packets sizes. The Tolly Group's test results confirm the Bivio 1000-CP delivers 2 gigabit per second, full duplex (Computers) arranged so that the information may be transmitted in both directions simultaneously; - of communications channels between computers; contrasted with half duplex(a).  throughput The speed with which a computer processes data. "The Bivio 1000-CP demonstrates that there is a viable alternative to ASIC-based systems to deliver gigabit throughput in a secure firewall environment," said Kevin Tolly, president and CEO of The Tolly Group. "This test proves that Check Point firewall software running on a highly optimized platform can deliver substantial increases in performance."

The Tolly Group's test conditions for the Bivio 1000-CP included a variety of packet sizes from 64 bytes to 1518 bytes with two to 200,000 simultaneous UDP UDP (uridine diphosphate): see uracil.

sessions and 100 active firewall rules. Full duplex throughput performance with zero packet loss was 2 gigabits per second or 100% of line rate at 1518 byte packets. In addition, the Bivio 1000-CP delivered 82% of line-rate throughput, or 1.6 gigabits per second when tested with 64-byte packets.

The Bivio 1000 incorporates a unique combination of technology including gigabit speed, programmable packet processing, scalable computing computing - computer  and an open Linux OS into a small form factor. The system is fast, flexible, cost effective and robust for enterprise and service provider applications. The Bivio 1000 delivers performance competitive with ASIC-based networking systems.

"Our objective is to deliver a best-of-breed IP Service Platform at a price point that is compelling for Enterprises and Service Provider customers alike," said Tom Gleason, Bivio's vice president of worldwide sales. "Bivio's partnership with Check Point Software and The Tolly Group's test results validate our technology and ability to deliver value at new price/performance benchmarks."

Bivio 1000-CP Benefits and Features

The Bivio 1000-CP is initially comprised of the preloaded FireWall-1 NG software and system hardware that includes the multi-gigabit eXpressLANE(TM) Processor module, the Application Processor module, power supply and modular network interfaces. Multi-gigabit performance is enabled by Check Point's SecureXL Performance Framework. The system is a low profile device that minimizes initial capital outlay capital outlay

and comes with Check Point software integrated and ready for immediate implementation. The Bivio 1000-CP delivers a unique combination of price and performance with superior performance for all packet sizes.

Patent pending eXpressLANE(TM) technology accelerates packet processing and ensures that packet handling rules applied on all interfaces are processed and forwarded at multi-gigabit throughput rate Throughput rate is an obsolete term[1] in the terminology of automated chemical analysis. It may mean either:

regardless of packet size, achieving performance increases many times that of traditional solutions. The Bivio 1000-CP system simultaneously achieves the following performance benchmarks:
-- Check Point FireWall-1 -- 2 Gigabit per second throughput

-- Check Point VPN-1 -- Scalable to 2 Gbps with Virtual Rack(TM) technology
