Bitter demise of Angostura.


COCKTAILS may never taste the same again after a worldwide shortage of Angostura bitters.

Supplies of the herbal concoction have run dry after the sole manufacturers shut down production due to the recession.

Invented i n 1824 by German doctor Johann Siegert and named after a t ow n i n Ve n e z u e l a , Angostura bitters are made from a secret recipe of herbs, barks, roots, spices and rum. They are a vital ingredient in many classic cocktails, including theManhattan.
