Bitstream Improves the Speed of Its Leading Font Rendering Solution for Small Embedded Systems.

Font Fusion 3.3 Dramatically Improves Its Font Rendering Speed for Compressed Fonts

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ NASDAQ

: BITS) announced today the release of Font Fusion[R] 3.3. This release offers a significant increase in rendering speed for compressed fonts and reasserts Font Fusion's dominant position as the fastest font engine available today.

The increased speed is due to the implementation of improved compression and decompression algorithms for compressed fonts. Earlier releases added many features to support memory-constrained devices such as support for compressed fonts and improvements to the cache management system. Developers can control the level of font compression depending on the device they need to support. The cache management system lets developers dynamically control the cache size and lets them store compressed characters, which also results in some increase in output speed. This latest release, however, focuses on speed increases by leveraging improvements in the compression technology of Font Fusion when working with compressed fonts.

"This release of Font Fusion builds on the momentum of the releases over the past year and raises our own standard for speed from a font rendering solution. We are committed to maintaining Font Fusion as the choice for worldwide developers who need a fast font rendering engine that can produce very high quality results," stated Anna Chagnon, President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Bitstream.
