Bitstream's TrueDoc Incorporated Into Publishing Toolset For Novell Envoy Technology; Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials brings font portability to all Envoy users.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 1995--Bitstream Inc. today announced the incorporation of its Bitstream TrueDoc 2.0 Imaging Technology into Tumbleweed tumbleweed, any of several plants, particularly abundant in prairie and steppe regions, that commonly break from their roots at maturity and, drying into a rounded tangle of light, stiff branches, roll before the wind, covering long distances and scattering seed as  Software's Publishing Essentials, a comprehensive portable document publishing toolset based on Novell's Envoy technology.

The incorporation of TrueDoc assures Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials users that the product will faithfully reproduce any font without compromising Envoy's industry-leading advantages in file size and viewing performance. The Publishing Essentials package integrates TrueDoc into two key components: the Novell Envoy portable document application and the Tumbleweed Publisher.

"Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials users now have the freedom to incorporate any font into their Envoy documents," said Jeffrey Smith, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Tumbleweed Software. "Bitstream's TrueDoc furthers Tumbleweed's goal of making document distribution seamless and universal for Novell Envoy."

TrueDoc ensures accurate Envoy documents

TrueDoc enables Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials users to embed any PostScript Type 1 or TrueType font in Envoy documents. TrueDoc embedding is available both via the Envoy Driver, which creates Envoy documents by printing from any application, and the Tumbleweed Publisher, which enables batch conversion of complex PostScript or PDF (Portable Document Format) The de facto standard for document publishing from Adobe. On the Web, there are countless brochures, data sheets, white papers and technical manuals in the PDF format.  documents into the Envoy format. The freely distributable Envoy Viewer also incorporates TrueDoc technology for displaying and printing portable fonts.

TrueDoc records and stores all font information entirely within documents, eliminating the need for font coordination between the document and the operating system operating system (OS)

. This avoids typical font fidelity problems such as incorrectly named fonts and missing screen or printer fonts.

TrueDoc ensures fast portable documents

TrueDoc also delivers a new level of font compression for Envoy documents. TrueDoc was natively supported in Netscape Navigator 4, but was discontinued in Netscape Navigator 6 and Mozilla  (PFR) that stays with the document when its is digitally distributed. The PFR retains the document's exact font characteristics The attributes and properties of a font.
