Toronto -- Cardinal Aloysius Ambrozic Aloysius Matthew Cardinal Ambrozic (born January 27, 1930) is a Roman Catholic cardinal and Archbishop Emeritus of Toronto. He became a cardinal on February 21, 1998.

Ambrozic was born in Gabrje, Slovenia as Alojzij Ambrožič.
 has been asked by the Holy Father to remain in his post after he reaches the mandatory retirement A mandatory retirement age is the age at which persons who hold certain jobs or offices are required by statute to step down, or retire.

Typically, mandatory retirement ages are justified by the argument that certain occupations are either too dangerous (military personnel)
 age of 75 on January 27, 2005. The Cardinal said he was "happy to continue." The Pope is allowing more and more residential cardinal archbishops to continue beyond their 75tn year. They include Paris, Krakow, Kampala, Abidjan, Managua, and Lviv (Jaworski of the Latins). Cardinal Swiatek of Minsk, Belarus, turned 90 in October 2004.
