 would be realized automatically." That's Church jargon, Morrisey said, "for saying that if the bishops would do their work, it wouldn't have to be centralized in Rome."

The canon lawyer was not in favour of holding a Plenary Council, as has been proposed in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  following last June's meeting in Dallas which dealt with the American clergy scandals. "This might be a very bad thing," he said, "because some of the newer bishops in Canada may be considered reactionary and might want to bring things back to a restoration era, suppressing some of the structures of the Church in Canada." Needless to say, Father Morrisey did not name the bishops he described as "reactionary."
