I WISH to cross swords with Bill Armer about his letter of July 7. Immigrants, emigrants, call them what you will, to me are all displaced people.

You are born wherever your mother happens to be at that moment in time mine was in Germany in 1929 where she had been in the NAAFI. My father was a regular soldier in the Dorsetshire Regiment serving in the BAOR occupation army.

I have never considered myself German nor have I applied for a German passport. I am British by parentage and ancestry.

John McEnroe, like me, was born in Wiesbaden, yet he is an American. Cliff Richards was born in India, but he is British.

Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem and is known as Jesus of Nazareth where his family come from. Birthplace is unimportant. The Welsh Irish, Scots and Cornish (Celts) are descended from a Germanic warrior tribe. There is no such thing as a perfect English man for we are a mixture of all Europeans plus Romans who invaded these islands in 43AD. I never cared for history in school, but now it is one of my hobbies.
