A mum issued with a birth certificate wrongly claiming her 10-week-old son was a girl today demanded an inquiry to prevent similar mistakes. Ieuan James Jones' mum Rachel Chick spoke out after the General Register Office (GRO GRO Guerrero (Estado de México) GRO General Register Office (UK) GRO Greater Research Opportunities GRO Gamma Ray Observatory GRO Growth-Related Oncogene GRO Greensboro, North Carolina ) finally agreed to provide a fresh copy showing Ieuan's correct sex. She said: "It's disgusting. What if he came to me when he was 17 or 18 and said, 'Mam, I need a passport because I want to go away with the boys'? "I would have had to explain to him, 'Sorry Ieuan, they made a mistake on your birth certificate. It says you're female.' It would have been so embarrassing for him. People would have thought he'd had a sex change. This must not happen again." Rachel went with partner Neil Jones Neil Jones (born February 16, 1982) is a New Zealand soccer player who plays as a striker. He currently is assistant coach at the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. But an official accidentally entered the tot's gender as female rather than male, sparking a dispute which eventually involved the local MP. Rachel, 22, claimed she was told the mistake was permanently logged in the computer system and could not be changed. Instead she was given a new document listing Ieuan as female on the front but with a correction on the back stating he was a boy. But, after she complained to Rhondda MP Chris Bryant ''For the British television writer, see Chris Bryant (writer) Christopher John Bryant (born January 11, 1962) is a British politician and is the Labour Member of Parliament for Rhondda, which he has held since 2001. , the GRO agreed to provide a completely new certificate showing he was male. Rachel, from Ton Pentre, Rhondda, added: "With a name like Ieuan James Jones how could they have possibly mistaken him for a girl in the first place? I know it was human error and she probably clicked the wrong the button, but at the end of the day it isn't good enough." A GRO spokesman said: "The offer has been made to replace the certificate with a fresh one showing the sex as it should have been. They are waiting for the parents to get in touch." |
