) today announced that Brian F. Hill has been named to the previously open position of Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
. Hill will report to Robert A. Garvey, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Birmingham Steel, and will be responsible for the Company's sales and manufacturing operations.

Hill, age 52, previously was associated for 31 years with Cargill Inc. During his tenure with Cargill, Hill held several executive positions, including executive vice president of Cargill's steel mini-mill subsidiary, North Star Steel Company. Most recently, he served as President of Cargill's worldwide seed business, where he was responsible for operations in 28 countries.

Hill is a graduate of the University of Minnesota (body, education) University of Minnesota - The home of Gopher.
