Birim Intersects High-Grade Gold Mineralization at Mansiso.Business Editors/Environment Writers MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 4, 2003 Birim Goldfields n. 1. The drill program consisted of twelve holes, totaling 865 meters, drilled along four fences spaced 25 meters apart. Birim has entered into an agreement to sell Dunkwa to Golden Star Resources (Golden Star) in return for a US$3.4 million cash payment and a net smelter return royalty (see Birim's May 29, 2003 press release). Upon completion of the proposed Dunkwa transaction, Golden Star will reimburse Birim for all costs incurred during the Mansiso drill campaign and any further exploration activities will fall under the supervision of Golden Star.

The drill program outlined a steeply dipping zone of gold mineralization up to 4 meters wide (true width). The mineralization has been interpreted as occurring within a shoot plunging at a very shallow angle to the southwest as is typical of gold mineralization within the Ashanti Gold Belt. Mineralization within this shoot is open down-plunge and the potential exists for the possibility of discovering additional parallel shoots. The northernmost set of drill holes, RCMN008 through RCMN012, are thought to have undercut the mineralized min·er·al·ize v. min·er·al·ized, min·er·al·iz·ing, min·er·al·iz·es v.tr. 1. All assays were carried at Transworld Laboratories in Tarkwa, Ghana. The remainder of the 5,000-meter drill program will focus on Birim's 100%-owned Bui District properties located in west-central Ghana. A 40-hole drilling has begun on the 1,000 metre long Namasa gold-in-soil anomaly; a prime target located within Tarkwaian conglomerates and located 2.5 kilometers south of Birim's 10-kilometer long Brohani gold-in-anomaly. Initially, five gold-in-soil anomalies in the Bui District will be drill tested as part of this programme.
