Bird's eye view.Bird lovers are being invited on a coastal walk. South Tyneside South Tyneside is a metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear in North East England. It is bordered by four other boroughs - Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead to the west, Sunderland in the south, and North Tyneside to the north. Council's Countryside Team are encouraging people to join them along the path south of Souter Lighthouse Souter Lighthouse (grid reference NZ408642) is a lighthouse located in the village of Marsden in South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England. History The lighthouse is located on Lizard Point at Marsden, but takes its name from Souter Point, which is located a mile to the , Whitburn, South Tyneside Whitburn is a village on the coast of North East England, in South Tyneside between Seaburn and Marsden. Etymology This Whitburn has a different origin to the one in Lothian: it means "white barn or house " from Old English hwit "white" and bere-ærn , next Thursday. Walkers will have the opportunity to look out from the observatory and enjoy views of gannets, skuas and shearwaters. Members of Durham Bird Club will be on hand with telescopes and those who come along can find out more about the work of the club. There will also be a short guided walk along the cliff tops to see wading birds, such as turnstones, redshank and curlews. The event starts at 6.30pm and finishes around 8.30pm. Anyone wanting to take part should meet at Whitburn Observatory. |
