:BVF) today announced that it has hired pharmaceutical industry veteran John Sebben to become its new Vice-President, Global Manufacturing. Mr. Sebben, who will be based at the company's head office in Mississauga, ON, will officially join the company August 4, 2004, replacing Praveen Tyle, who has left Biovail to pursue other interests.

Most recently, Mr. Sebben was Vice-President, Operations, at TorPharm, a Toronto-based division of Apotex Inc., the largest generic pharmaceutical manufacturer in Canada. During his tenure, he oversaw the company's operational processes, including manufacturing, packaging, planning, logistics, warehousing, purchasing, and production maintenance.

Before joining TorPharm in January 2002, Mr. Sebben spent more than 13 years at GlaxoSmithKline in Mississauga, where he held a series of progressively responsible senior positions, including Director, Operations and Director, Supply Chain. From 1986-1989, Mr. Sebben served as Director, Materials Management, for Sandoz Canada in Whitby, ON. Previously, he spent five years with Travenol Canada, where he held a number of materials-management and business-planning roles.
