The research team is developing a system to produce monoclonal antibodies within eight to 10 weeks. It takes months or years for the body to produce such antibodies. Research results could lead to faster diagnoses and be useful for therapeutic purposes, among other uses. "Instead of performing a biopsy to determine whether a person has cancer, physicians could run a simple test on the patient where the monoclonal antibody monoclonal antibody, an antibody that is mass produced in the laboratory from a single clone and that recognizes only one antigen. Monoclonal antibodies are typically made by fusing a normally short-lived, antibody-producing B cell (see immunity) to a fast-growing looks for a particular cancer cell. The diagnosis could be much faster than it currently is," said Dr. Daniel Eichinger, a professor of medical and molecular parasitology Parasitology The scientific study of parasites and of parasitism. Parasitism is a subdivision of symbiosis and is defined as an intimate association between an organism (parasite) and another, larger species of organism (host) upon which the parasite is at New York University New York University, mainly in New York City; coeducational; chartered 1831, opened 1832 as the Univ. of the City of New York, renamed 1896.
