, the trade association representing the major biotechnology research and development organizations in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , has joined as a sponsoring organization of the National Congress on the Future of Pharmaceuticals in Medical Care -- Innovation and Cost Management.

The congress will be held December 8-10, 1999, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, immediately adjacent the Ronald Reagan National Airport.

At a time of great political unrest regarding the costs and coverage of pharmaceuticals, the congress will provide both a policy and practical overview of the role that pharmaceuticals play in America's healthcare financing and delivery system. The nation's leading thinkers on pharmaceutical policy will speak to these issues.
