Biopotential Capital Inc. Announces the Appointment of Dr. Thomas J. Hudson to Its Scientific Advisory Board.


CALGARY, Alberta -- Biopotential Capital Inc., listed on the TSX Venture Exchange TSX Venture Exchange

Originally called the Canadian Venture Exchange (CDNX), this was a result of the merger of the Vancouver and Alberta stock exchanges. The goal of TSX Venture Exchange is to provide venture companies with effective access to capital while protecting investors.

Hudson Thomas James Hudson, M.D., (born June 12, 1961) is a Canadian genome scientist noted for his leading role in the generation of physical maps of the human and mouse genomes and also his role in the International HapMap Project whose goal is to develop a haplotype map of the human  to its Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Hudson is an Associate Professor & Associate Physician, Departments of Medicine & Human Genetics at McGill University and founder & Director of the McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre.Dr. Hudson teaches in the departments of Human Genetics and Medicine at McGill University and practices medicine at the McGill University Health Centre The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) (in French, Centre universitaire de santé McGill) is a network of five teaching hospitals in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, all of which are affiliated with McGill University.  - Montreal General Hospital The Montreal General Hospital is a hospital in Montreal, Canada, first established on May 1, 1819 and an early teaching hospital. The hospital has moved several times in the past, and is currently situated on Mount Royal, at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Cote des Neiges  (Division of Immunology and Allergy).

Dr. Hudson is internationally renowned for his work in Genomics and is past Assistant-Director of the Whitehead Institute/MIT Center for Genome Research and past Chair of the Science Committee of Genome Canada.At the Whitehead Institute, Dr. Hudson led the effort to generate dense physical and gene maps of the human and mouse genomes. He is a leader in the development and applications of robotic systems and DNA-chip based methodologies for genome research.In June 1996, he founded the Montreal Genome Centre based at the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute.In 2003, this group expanded to become the McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre. Dr. Hudson and his team were founding members of the International Haplotype haplotype /hap·lo·type/ (-tip) the group of alleles of linked genes, e.g., the HLA complex, contributed by either parent; the haploid genetic constitution contributed by either parent.

Dr. Hudson is editor-in-chief of the journal Human Genetics. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Andre-Dupont 2002 Young Investigator Award given by Quebec's Clinical Research Club, an Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the major federal agency responsible for funding health research in Canada. It is the successor to the Medical Research Council of Canada. , a Burroughs-Wellcome Clinician-Scientist Award, The 2002 Prix de la Sante from the Armand-Frappier Foundation, the 2001 Young Scientist Award by the Genetics Society of Canada, the 2000 Scientist of the Year by Radio-Canada and the 1999 Canada Top 40 Under 40.

One of Canada's top scientist and a Jonquiere, Quebec native, Dr. Hudson studied medicine at the Universite de Montreal and completed his post-doctorate studies at Boston's MIT MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology  and Whitehead Institute.

Dr. Hudson has made numerous scientific achievements including recent cloning of a gene for a neurodegenerative disease called ARSACS ARSACS Autosomal Recessive Spastic Ataxia of Charlevoix-Saguenay , a disease that affects 300 individuals in northeastern Quebec; mapping of a gene causing infantile cirrhosis and identification of mutations involved in diabetes and lipid disorders.

Dr. Hudson was included in a cover story grouping of "Great Canadians" by Maclean's that also featured Supreme Court chief justice Beverley McLachlin and ABC News anchor Peter Jennings. According to Maclean's, Hudson is "one of the founding fathers of the much-heralded New Age research into humanity's chemical code, its genome."

Dr. Hudson stated that he is pleased to join Osta's scientific advisory board.
