Biophan Researchers Present Scientific Papers at Forum of MRI Policymakers and Industry Leaders; Company Scientists Detail Range of Solutions for MRI Safety at ISMRM Meeting.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Biophan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BIPH; FWB: BTN), a developer of next-generation medical technology, announced that Company researchers and research partners were invited to present scientific papers at a high-profile meeting of leading federal healthcare policymakers and industry professionals. The special meeting on MRI safety was sponsored by the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), and was held Nov. 5-6 in McLean, Virginia.

"The field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging ('MRI') continues to undergo rapid changes including the introduction of more powerful MRI systems and new applications of the technology," said Jeffrey L. Helfer, Biophan's Vice President of Engineering. "The combination of an increasing number of patients receiving implanted medical devices and safety issues associated with the use of these devices in the MRI environment has caused over 200,000 patients per year to be denied MRI exams. As a result, medical device manufacturers are searching for technologies they can purchase or license to enable their devices to be used safely with MRI, which is creating growing interest in Biophan's technologies."

Present at the ISMRM meeting were scientists, device manufacturers, FDA officials, physicians, as well as MRI nurses and technologists. Three presentations were made by Biophan and its affiliates at the ISMRM meeting. The titles are listed below:

--"Influence of Pacemaker Lead Design Geometry and Placement Configuration on MRI-induced Heating and Implanted Leads." Presenter: Jeffrey L. Helfer, Biophan Vice President, Engineering.

--"Inductively Coupled MR Visualization of Intraluminal Substrates of Vascular Implants, Principles and Safety Aspects." Presenter: Andreas Melzer, Chief Technology Officer, Biophan-Europe.

--"A Basic Investigation of Heating Effects on Total Hip Prosthesis in Combination with a Simulated Skin Contact of the Inner Thighs During Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) with a 1.5 Tesla MR System." Author: Gregor Schaefers, Managing Director of MR:comp GmbH, a company affiliated with Biophan through its Biophan-Europe division.

"At this meeting, we presented new technologies for expanding the use of MRI," Mr. Helfer continued. "Heating of pacemaker and other leads can vary widely from one lead to another, as well as from one manufacturer to another, under identical conditions. This variability is further compounded by conditions which include: lead configuration (length and design), MRI machine type and settings, position of the patient in the coil, geometry of the lead within the patient, etc. As a result, safety standards must address the combination of all of these worst case conditions. Biophan solutions, tested under worst case conditions, were consistently able to reduce heating to acceptable levels.
