It is the first in a three-part series of videos about the MYO-VAD.

"Recent medical studies have shown that ventricular assist devices are superior to medical management that center on drug therapies," Mr. Weiner notes in the video. "But unfortunately, current VADs are associated with serious complications, including high rates of often fatal clotting, stroke, bleeding, and infection. While the therapeutic benefits of VADs are exciting, the complications associated with the devices available for use today are still completely unacceptable."

Some leading medical device companies have already expressed initial interest in the MYO-VAD device. It is designed to assist the best blood pump known to man - the heart - to maintain healthy blood flow during heart failure. Moreover, the device is less invasive and therefore could be safer, simpler and more affordable than other devices on the market. Previous versions of Direct Mechanical Ventricular Actuation (DMVA DMVA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs ) technology have been implanted experimentally in 700 animals, and successfully in five patients - helping to save their lives, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the DMVA technology upon which the MYO-VAD design is based.
