Rumours abounded last month about the well-being of Khalid Abdullah's Zafonic filly filly

Sporting a golden tan after his holiday in the Cayman Islands Cayman Islands (kā`mən), British dependency (2005 est. pop. 44,300), 100 sq mi (259 sq km), comprising three islands in the West Indies. , Cecil said he hoped Bionic was still very much on course for a crack at the Newmarket fillies' Classic which this year is to be run on the July Course on Sunday, May 2.

"She's fine and that was her first canter today," said Cecil. "She's had a few minor problems with her feet. She has slightly dropped soles and it's a question of keeping them settled.

"I'm speaking with Prince Khalid later this week about Bionic's programme, which might take in the 1,000 Guineas and the French Oaks."

Cecil's first lot appeared shortly after 8am on a cold but bright morning at headquarters. Two Thousand Guineas Two Thousand Guineas

"On the whole I think they've wintered well," added Cecil. "I've got about 190 horses this year. We've quite a few unknown quantities among them as about 60 of the three-year-olds are maidens. There will be about 90 juveniles. Those that are in seem a nice bunch.

"I would hope Ballet Master, Killer Instinct and Enrique might make up into 2,000 Guineas prospects. When asked about the strength of the Godolphin team, Cecil said: "I'm sure the Godolphin team will be formidable. But stiff competition is what it's all about. We're ready to go and there's a lot of work to do over the next two months or so. Hopefully, ours will be strong enough to compete."

The turf canter on Warren Hill remained shut yesterday because of soft ground, although the grass on nearby Side Hill was opened for the first time this year. Jockey Club Estates manager Peter Amos said the Warren Hill turf could be available today, weather permitting.
