Silicon Valley Heavyweights On Board

Reelplay.com, the film and television industry's leading business-to-business online marketplace, has closed its second round of financing, raising more than $4.5 million from top private equity firms, the company announced today.

Led by SOFTBANK Venture Capital, this round included a significant investment from Frank Biondi's Waterview Advisors as well as Sycamore Ventures. Several prominent Hollywood and Silicon Valley heavyweights also invested including: Dr. Pehong Chen, President and CEO of Broadvision (Nasdaq:BVSN); Michael Kassan, former President and COO of Western Initiative Media Worldwide (affiliated with the Interpublic Group of Companies); Greg Meidel, President and COO of Massive Media Group and former Chairman of Universal Studios Television Group; Dr. Dominic Orr, CEO and Chairman of Alteon Web Systems (Nasdaq:ATON); and Howard Weitzman, CEO of Massive Media Group and former EVP of Corporate Operations for Universal Studios.

Additional investors in this round included private equity funds Olympic Private Equity and PCRS Capital Partners.

Biondi, Weitzman, Meidel and Kassan are all executives of Massive Media Group, a start-up focused on providing digital rights management (DRM) enabled applications and services to the entertainment and advertising markets using technology from Intertrust (Nasdaq:ITRU).

Reelplay.com is leading the development of a frictionless online marketplace for the buying, selling and marketing of motion pictures and television programs. Launched in October 1999, the online marketer has quickly signed up a majority of the top independent film and television distribution companies and has assembled the world's largest database of film and television programs with trailers and artwork.
