Bion Environmental Technologies Announces BionSoil Used in EPA Superfund Site Cleanup.

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 1999--

Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: BION) announced today that BionSoil(R), a patented organic fertilizer and soil enhancer produced by the Company's animal waste treatment systems, was part of the first project to use manufactured soil to remediate an EPA Superfund site.

The site, the former location of the Drake Chemical Company in Lockhaven, Pennsylvania, was contaminated with various organic compounds.

According to Charles R. (Dick) Lee, Ph.D., CPSS, soil scientist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station, "The Drake project is the first use of the Recycled Soil Manufacturing Technology (RSMT) to reclaim incinerated soil. This project's success expands the use of this technology to superfund sites throughout the U.S. There are currently more than 1,000 potential locations including mine reclamation, landfill cover and Brownfield redevelopment sites where manufactured soil technology would be a cost-effective solution."

In a previous remediation application of BionSoil and RSMT by the Corps of Engineers, material dredged from the New York and New Jersey Harbors was reclaimed into topsoil that grew specialized plants to degrade and eliminate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). In another unrelated project, Bion, in conjunction with State University of New York at Buffalo, Center for Hazardous Waste Management, used BionSoil to successfully remediate contaminated soil at a former Motorola (NYSE: MOT) electronics manufacturing plant in western New York. At this site, land was contaminated with volatile organic carbons and a variety of aromatic compounds. Prior attempts to rehabilitate the soil without BionSoil proved unsuccessful.
