Biomarker Technologies LLC to Begin Pilot Study of a New Blood Test for Breast Cancer.

PHOENIX -- BT Test(TM) Provides Early Detection, Cost Effective Diagnostic Blood Test
1. An examination of a sample of blood to determine its chemical, physical, or serologic characteristics.
2. A serologic test for certain diseases, such as syphilis or AIDS.

Biomarker Technologies LLC, the worldwide technology provider of the blood diagnostic test for the detection of breast cancer called the BT Test(TM), announced today plans to begin a pilot study of the test in the United States beginning in April 2005.

The company is conducting the pilot study to verify its prior results and make final preparations for FDA clinical studies. The study will be a retrospective blind test with samples from healthy participants, those with untreated breast cancer, as well as those from a select group of other cancer conditions in order to demonstrate the differentiation capabilities of the test. In initial studies involving more than 250 subjects, the BT Test successfully identified non-treated breast cancer in women with a greater than 95% sensitivity and specificity, outperforming mammography.

"The BT Test is designed to provide physicians with an additional, and superior, diagnostic tool to routinely evaluate their patients for breast cancer," said William Gartner, CEO and president of Biomarker Technologies LLC. "We hope the BT Test will be administered during annual physicals and quickly become the first step in the line of defense for the detection of breast cancer in women."

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, striking one out of every seven women. With early detection, however, the five-year survival rate is about 97% when the cancer has not spread at the time of diagnosis. The American Cancer Society Inc. (ACS) estimates that approximately 45,000,000 mammograms were conducted in 2004. In 2005, ACS estimates that more than 211,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed and 40,410 women will die of the disease in the United States alone (more than 376,000 worldwide). Additionally, ACS estimates 45% of women over 40 years of age do not get their annual mammogram as recommended because of the fear, pain and/or anxiety associated with the procedure.

"We aspire to have the BT Test significantly impact the survivability of breast cancer by improving detection and by getting more women involved in the screening process," said Gartner. "This blood test will offer millions of women who are either afraid or unable to get mammograms another option for diagnosis."

The BT Test is designed to detect the presence of breast cancer at the molecular level unlike mammography, which only detects masses or gross changes in breast tissue via an X-ray photograph.

About the BT Test

The BT Test is an IP-protected blood test that offers women a more comfortable test method and greater convenience while providing caregivers higher sensitivity, early detection capabilities, broader range of age applicability and ease of administration. The test measures five key cancer-associated biomarkers which can detect breast cancer when combined and adjusted for age.

This combination of comfort and accuracy gives the BT Test the potential to save tens of thousands of women's lives annually by detecting this devastating disease at the earliest stages.
