BIODEGRADABLE biodegradable /bio·de·grad·a·ble/ (-de-grad´ah-b'l) susceptible of degradation by biological processes, as by bacterial or other enzymatic action.

 RESIN AVAILABLE. Hokuetsu Paper and Mitsui Chemicals, Japan, have developed a pulp fiber reinforced plastic that is biodegradable. Mitsui Chemicals supplies the polylactic acid polylactic acid /poly·lac·tic ac·id/ (-lak´tik) a hydrophobic hydroxy acid polymer that is formed into granules and used as a surgical dressing for dental extraction sites.  made from corn and a biodegradable resin reinforced by chlorine-free pulp fiber.
