BioSphere Medical, Inc.(TM) (Nasdaq: BSMD), a medical device company that is pioneering the use of bioengineered microspheres to treat hypervascularized tumors and vascular malformations by occluding their blood supply, today announced Thomas M. Keenan has been named to the new position of Vice President of International Sales and Marketing.

In his new role at BioSphere Medical, Mr. Keenan will be managing the Company's European presence and its Pan European distribution relationship with Terumo Corporation. In addition, he will be responsible for developing new markets for the Company's proprietary embolic products in Asia and Latin America. Mr. Keenan will be based at the Company's headquarters in Rockland, Massachusetts.

Keenan's professional experience in the medical device industry includes a strong background in Interventional Radiology. Most recently, Keenan was President and CEO of Ekos, Inc. based in Seattle, Washington. Prior to his time at Ekos, he was Vice President of Sales & Marketing of Cell-Pro, Inc. Keenan's previous experience includes 13 years at Boston Scientific Inc. where he held several management positions including VP of Marketing, Medi-Tech Division, and VP Sales & Marketing, International.
