BioSecurity Conference Names Former Israeli Prime Minister Barak as Special Advisor and Keynote Speaker.

BioSecurity 2002, an international scientific and educational conference, announced today that it has appointed former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak a special advisor and keynote speaker. Through his nearly four decades as a political and defense leader in Israel, Barak is well versed in the theoretical and practical aspects of bioterrorism.

Barak plans to discuss his experiences in dealing with the threat of bioterrorism as a political leader, as well as his views on biosecurity from the international perspective. Following his keynote address, Barak will conduct an exclusive briefing for attending media at the conference which takes place November 18-21, 2002 in Las Vegas.

Barak's distinguished public service career spans more than 35 years. Barak was elected to the office of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense in May 1999. Prior to this, Barak formed the One Israel Party from the Labor, Gesher and Meimad factions. In 1996, Barak was elected Chairman of the Labor Party. Barak has also held the posts of Minister of the Interior, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Lt. General, the highest rank in the Israeli military. He received the "Distinguished Service Medal" and four other citations for his courage and operational excellence.
