BioSante Pharmaceuticals Announces Expansion of Patent Portfolio for CAP Nanotechnology with New European Patent.

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. -- BioSante Pharmaceuticals (AMEX:BPA) announced today that the European Patent Office (EPO) has allowed claims in a new patent entitled "Method of Manufacturing Therapeutic Calcium Phosphate Particles" (European Patent No. 1150918) for the manufacturing process of the company's unique calcium phosphate nanoparticles (CAP). This new patent names BioSante scientists as inventors and is solely owned by BioSante.

The EPO patent covers BioSante's proprietary manufacturing process for its CAP nanoparticles, including its manufacture with antigens for vaccines and therapeutic proteins for drug delivery. The company was awarded a patent on the manufacturing process and biomedical uses for its CAP nanoparticles in the United States in 2002. BioSante continues to pursue patent protection both in the United States and abroad on various applications of its CAP nanoparticles.

BioSante's CAP nanotechnology consists of microscopic particles of specially formulated calcium phosphate, similar to that found in teeth and bones. BioSante is developing CAP for a growing range of applications, including its use as a safer, biocompatible and biodegradable alternative to aluminum salts as a vaccine adjuvant to enhance the immunogenicity and corresponding effectiveness of vaccines.
