"The Williston transfer station has a permit to receive up to 400 tons of waste per day, and it will help ensure a long-term stable waste flow into our Moretown landfill," according to Strauss. "With the addition of the Williston transfer station, BioSafe's subsidiary, WPV, will become the second largest solid waste management company in the state, and it will offer WPV greater access to the Burlington, Vermont Burlington is the largest city in the U.S. state of Vermont and is the shire town of Chittenden County, Vermont. With a population of 38,889, the city is the core of one of the nation's smaller metropolitan areas, and is also the smallest U.S.  and surrounding area markets, Vermont's most populated and industrious community," Strauss added.

Under the expected agreement, WPV will lease the transfer station from the Chittenden Solid Waste District for ten years and will have an option to buy it at the end of the lease period for a minimal amount. The final lease/purchase agreement is subject to approval by the District's Board of Commissioners and BioSafe's Board of Directors, and is expected to be signed later this month.

"We're very pleased with BioSafe's business momentum in the Vermont solid waste market, as we have recently enjoyed numerous positive development there," said Strauss. In January 1997, BioSafe established a waste collection business in the region surrounding the Moretown landfill, as an initial step in developing an integrated solid waste management operation there. Then, last month, the company filed an application to permit a second cell at the Moretown landfill, which would increase the landfill's available capacity by more than fourfold. Later in the month, BioSafe received a $1.3 million, 15-month contract to dispose of To determine the fate of; to exercise the power of control over; to fix the condition, application, employment, etc. of; to direct or assign for a use.
