Bio-Plexus receives FDA approval for Winged Set.


TOLLAND, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 1996--Bio-Plexus, Inc., (NASDAQ/NMS:BPLX), designer, developer, manufacturer and marketer of safety medical products under the Punctur-Guard(R) name, announced today that it has received 510(k) approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market the Punctur-Guard(R) Winged Set.

Domestic market size for the safety winged set is estimated at approximately $140 million per year. Marketing of the product will begin immediately.

The winged set consists of a small needle with a pair of plastic wings that gives the healthcare worker a greater ability to control the needle for very precise vein insertion. It is used primarily to draw blood from patients whose veins are difficult to access, typically geriatric geriatric /ger·i·at·ric/ (jer?e-at´rik)
