World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for IT markets, today announced that Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo attracted 4,292 life sciences and IT professionals to its educational sessions and exhibits at the Hynes Convention Center The John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center located in Boston's Back Bay has 193,000 square feet (0 m) of exhibit space and can accommodate up to four concurrent events.  in Boston last week. Exhibiting companies showcased the newest technology products for the life sciences, disseminated information about customer success stories and sought out new business partnerships.

"IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Life Sciences was the Cornerstone Sponsor of the Bio-ITWorld 2003 show in Boston," said Inna Kuznetsova, IBM Life Sciences' worldwide integrated marketing communications Integrated Marketing Communications Definition
The American Marketing Association suggests that integrated marketing communications (IMC) is “a planning process designed to assure that all contacts received by a customer or prospect for a product, service, or
manager. "Bio-ITWorld provided an excellent venue for us to talk to life sciences professionals about new IBM solutions for drug discovery and development, information-based medicine, and regulatory compliance. We had a lot of booth traffic; in fact, there was never a quiet moment on the floor. The Bio-ITWorld Conference is one of the most important industry events of the year. IBM has been a participant since its inception."

Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, government and life science professionals came to Bio-ITWorld to learn about the latest technologies and techniques, network with their peers and find out more about the rising stars of the emerging bio-IT industry. In over three dozen conference sessions, symposia and keynotes, speakers conveyed an upbeat message about a promising future for bio-IT, despite a backdrop of war and a strained U.S. economy.

"It's encouraging to see specific instances of bio-IT making strides, as we've seen this week at Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo," said Rob Scheschareg, vice president of sales, marketing and product development, IDG World Expo.

Comprehensive education

The conference program kicked off with two, half-day scientific symposia, offered for the first time at Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo. The Post-Genomic Frontiers Symposium, which drew standing room only crowds, featured leading scientists illustrating how knowledge of the genome and a stream of new technology is being applied in fields such as pharmacogenomics, proteomics, chemical biology Chemical biology is a scientific discipline spanning the fields of chemistry and biology that involves the application of chemical techniques and tools, often compounds produced through synthetic chemistry, to the study and manipulation of biological systems.  and systems biology Systems biology, a field of study in the biosciences, focuses on the systematic study of complex interactions in biological systems. Particularly from 2000 onwards, the term is used widely in the biosciences, and in a variety of contexts. . Also packed was the E-Clinical Trials Symposium, which featured prominent scientists discussing the technologies which are paving the way to more efficient drug trials, decision-making strategies and the state of the clinical trial management systems marketplace. Both symposia were co-organized by Bio-IT World magazine.

Dr. Francis S. Collins, director of the National Human Genome The human genome is the genome of Homo sapiens, which is composed of 24 distinct pairs of chromosomes (22 autosomal + X + Y) with a total of approximately 3 billion DNA base pairs containing an estimated 20,000–25,000 genes.  Research Institute (NHGRI NHGRI National Human Genome Research Institute ) at the National Institutes of Health, presented the opening keynote address keynote address
