Binocs Launches at Philly's First Union Center for NCAA and NHL Playoffs; Binoc's Binocular Rental Systems Brings Events Alive Using Windows-Powered Pocket PCs.

PHILADELPHIA--(BW SportsWire)--March 21, 2001

Binocs Systems announces the first permanent installation of its Wireless RF binocular binocular, small optical instrument consisting of two similar telescopes mounted on a single frame so that separate images enter each of the viewer's eyes. As with a single telescope, distant objects appear magnified, but the binocular has the additional advantage  rental system for event spectators with the official Binocs launch at First Union Center.

How do Binocs work? High quality, 8x30 wide-angle, auto-focus Hoya lens binoculars are installed under spectators' seats and may be easily rented for an entire event for $5, using cash or credit cards. Fans just ask Binocs vendors in the stands or visit one of the four Binocs booths located in the concourse throughout First Union Center. Binocs vendors clad in khaki pants and navy blue polo shirts (emblazoned with "Binocs Rentals") are equipped with Pocket PCs, which wirelessly open the binocular units. Discounted season passes are also available.

For each arena installation, Binocs' sister company Tekware Solutions provides its proprietary mobile point-of-sale wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  system, which allows Binocs' roving vendors to use Microsoft's Windows-powered Pocket PC technology. First Union Center in Philadelphia, home of the 76ers, Flyers and Wings, draws more than 15,000 patrons per event, in addition to more than 100-plus concerts and family shows per year. Initially, Binocs units were installed in the suites and on mezzanine and club levels and shortly thereafter, approximately 12,000 units were installed in the general stadium seats.
