Bingley entries hit a record level.Cattle entries for this year's National Primestock Show, at Bingley Hall The Bingley Hall in Birmingham was the first purpose-built exhibition hall in Great Britain. It was built in 1850 and burned down in 1983. The precursor of Bingley Hall was an "Exhibition of the Manufactures of Birmingham and the Midland Counties" in a temporary wooden hall , Stafford on Saturday and Sunday, November 20 and 21, have broken the 400 barrier for the first time in more than a decade. This takes them to almost 100 up on last year's event and well above the level of the last pre-foot and mouth show of 2000. A total of 427 cattle were registered by the closing date for entries of October 20. The organisers' decision to stick with traditional, individual sections for different breeds of cattle The following is a list of breeds of cattle. Over 800 breeds of cattle are recognized worldwide, adapted both for local climate and for specialized uses. Unless indicated the breed is primarily of the Bos taurus type. , and their strong backing for native breed classes has been vindicated with entries from Hereford, Aberdeen Angus, Longhorn and South Devon cattle Summary South Devon cattle are the largest of the British Native breeds. They are believed to have descended from the large red cattle of Normandy which were imported during the Norman invasion. as well as large classes from continental breeds. In total pedigree cattle entries run to 86. The huge cross-bred cattle section has 230 entries and the baby beef classes 101, with a broad range of breeds of origin. Overall cattle numbers are up by almost 100 on last year's 330, but with the decision earlier this year to discontinue the dairy section, beef numbers are up even more than the figures at first suggest. Sheep classes have held steady at 76 pens, while sheep carcases are two up on 2003 at 62. Cattle carcases are down slightly at 16, but this follows a reduction in the number of classes so like-for-like entries are the same, while entries for the substantial turkey classes are still taken up to mid-November. Given this is a year when the biannual bi·an·nu·al adj. 1. Happening twice each year; semiannual. 2. Occurring every two years; biennial. bi·an Royal Smithfield Show is also being held, the increase in entries is particularly significant, according to George Young, the show chairman. Mr Young said: "It is recognition of the outstanding quality of entries the National Primestock Show attracts, and our fine venue." |
