BindView Announces Strategy for Managing the NetWare Enterprise; Risk Management Solutions Benefit Novell's Net Services Customers.

BindView Corporation (NASDAQ: BVEW), a leading provider of IT risk management solutions, today unveiled its strategy to help customers configure and secure Novell's Net Services including NDS eDirectory and associated NDS-enabled applications. BindView will be delivering new capabilities to reduce and manage the risks threatening the safety, integrity, and availability of the critical components of the NetWare enterprises.

BindView's flagship product bv-Control for NetWare (previously branded as NOSadmin for NetWare) will be extended to improve the management and security of NDS eDirectory, GroupWise, ZENworks, and BorderManager. In addition, BindView is offering the bv-Admin product family for managing the heterogeneous enterprise, including technology formerly shipping as the NDS Plus Pack which was acquired with the company's recent merger with Entevo.

Control of Novell's Net Services

In order to effectively protect and manage Novell's Net Services, including NDS eDirectory and the associated e-business services and business-critical applications that depend on it, customers need to report, analyze and enforce a variety of IT policies. Addressing these requirements, the bv-Control product family includes the following capabilities for controlling Novell Directory Services (NDS):

    -- Bv-Control for NetWare is the premier security and systems
management solution that pinpoints and eliminates threats to the
safety, integrity and availability of the NDS enterprise. BindView
will be enhancing its capabilities to provide security and management
of GroupWise, ZENworks and BorderManager. These new capabilities
include:

    -- Specific fields that will allow mail, application, and firewall
    administrators the ability to fully evaluate the configuration and
    security of these NDS-enabled applications.

    -- The ability to administer and report upon multiple NDS trees to
    help migration efforts or maintain the current NDS structure.

    -- Specific fields for administering Novell Distributed Printing
    Services (NDPS).

    Control of NetWare Server Platforms

    -- bv-Control for NetWare provides a complete management solution
for file server configuration, documentation, and with ActiveAdmin,
the ability to make enterprise-wide configuration changes. Upcoming
capabilities will include:

    --  IP Administration
        -- bv-Control for NetWare will be enhanced to provide NetWare
        administrators an easy way to manage, report and make changes
        to the critical areas of IP administration with ActiveAdmin
        technology. The product will include the ability to report and
        administer TCP/IP and DNS/DHCP settings on an enterprise
        level.

    --  Improved scoping
        -- bv-Control for NetWare will include enhanced granularity of
        its query-based scoping functionality. NetWare administrators
        will now have increased flexibility in selecting specific
        sources of information as well as combinations of source data.
        This improved scoping capability enables the reporting and
        administration of the key areas of server management in the
        most optimum way possible.

Administration of the Heterogeneous Environment

In order to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving infrastructure, customers need to manage multiple platforms including NetWare 4, NetWare 5, Windows 2000, Windows NT, and UNIX. To ensure seamless operation, companies require a single point of administration for managing these mixed environments. To address this requirement, BindView's bv-Admin product family enables cross-platform management from a single interface.
