ST MIRREN striker Billy Mehmet admits he should have snatched a last-gasp point for his side at Tynecastle.

Mehmet - who had pulled his team level in 70 minutes - came within inches of earning 10-man Buddies an unlikely draw when he was presented with a golden chance in the final seconds.

They won a free-kick on the left deep into injury time with the ball finding Mehmet inside the sixyard box only for the hitman to head his effort wide of the post.

The Londoner sighed: "I just got too much on the header. If I had glanced it then it would have been a goal and we would have got a draw which we would have deserved for effort alone.

"The boys put in a terrific shift and worked so hard to stay in the game. The red card was harsh as he got two bookings for his first two challenges.

"It was a blow to lose the goal on the stroke of half-time but we tried to keep passing the ball.

"I thought I was offside with the equaliser as I was in plenty of space. Unfortunately we gave away the penalty soon after but we kept going to the end and could have snatched a point."

Hearts fielded their third keeper in as many games with the debut of Marian Kello but boss Casba Laszlo admits he's still far from satisfied.

He said: "There were positives and negatives to take from the display. We could have won by more but the main thing is we got the result."
