BILLY REID insists goal hero Richard Offiong let himself down with the late red card that rules him out of Hamilton's crucial home clash with Inverness in two weeks.

Offiong (right) went from hero to zero in the space of 10 minutes.

He netted a sublime clinching strike in Accies' first home success over Aberdeen in 54 years before walking for dissent after a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

And while Reid hailed the influence of the Englishman - whose strike added to Simon Mensing's earlier penalty - he admitted Offiong's moment of madness is a huge blow.

Frustrated Reid said: "Richard's goal was superb and for a spell of 20 minutes he was simply unplayable.

"When he's on form he has the ability in his locker to be a hugely influential player.

"That's why we're so disappointed with what happened at the end.

"How do you think I feel about the red card? To boot the ball away in injury time when you are 2-0 up?

"He knows himself what he has done and knows he's a major player who will now be missing. We'll deal with the matter internally and look forward.

"The main thing is we won and we're starting to learn at this level.

"Maybe I was a bit naive thinking we had players good enough to come up and have a real go to win games.

"We've had to adapt to the style of other sides in this league and it's effective. We've won our last three home games and are playing well."
