Billiton wins mining contract.
LIMA --British group Billiton, one of the largest mining and
metal-producing Firms in the world, bought the La Granja copper mine in
Peru for $15 million plus one dollar - a dollar more than the minimum
bid. Billiton was the only bidder after Grupo Mexico decided not to
participate in the auction. Investment in La Crania will total reach
$600 million during the First three to four years. Total investment
could eventually reach $ 2 billion. Work is slated to begin as soon as
the Final contract is signed in December.
