Billie-Jo murder motive 'not sex'.


THE prosecution in the Billie-Jo Jenkins murder retrial retrial n. a new trial granted upon the motion of the losing party, based on obvious error, bias or newly-discovered evidence. (See: newly-discovered evidence)  was "desperate to find a motive", it was alleged yesterday.

And they hinted at a false "nudge nudge 1

, nudge, wink, wink" sexual motive because there was not evidence of a motive against her foster father, the jury was told.

Jenkins, 48, a former deputy head teacher, originally from Aberystwyth and now of Lymington, Hants, denies murdering the 13-year-old in February, 1997.

She was found battered at least 10 times with an iron tent peg as she painted patio doors at the family home in Hastings, East Sussex East Sussex, county (1991 pop. 670,600), 693 sq mi (1,795 sq km), extreme SE England. It comprises seven administrative districts: Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Hove, Lewes, Rother, and Wealden. The county, the seat of which is Lewes, borders the English Channel. .

Christopher Sallon, QC, defending, questioned why the prosecution had included references to Billie-Jo flirting.

"Was this elicited merely to provide you with a rounded and complete picture or is there here an element of nudge, nudge, wink, wink in a case where the prosecution has told you there is no need to provide a motive but are desperate to find a motive?" he asked.

Mr Sallon said the prosecution failed to find a motive which would have led Jenkins to launc

Mr Sallon said Jenkins would not have been able to kill Billie-Jo, clean his hands and return to acting normally with his other daughters within the three-to-five minutes alleged by the prosecution.

The trial continues.
