Billboard Music Awards Performers Generate Significant Sales Gains; Ratings Increase From Previous Year.

On charts released Wednesday, Dec. 17, by Nielsen SoundScan, 13 of the acts that either performed and/or won on FOX's Dec. 10 Billboard Music Awards The Billboard Music Awards, sponsored by Billboard magazine and held annually in December, is one of several annual United States music awards shows (among the others are the American Music Awards, the Grammy Awards and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony).  have sales gains of at least 21 percent, with nine of those gains beating the week's overall 30 percent volume lift.

"What is impressive is that so many of these increases are ahead of the week's overall industry index."

Ratings for the Billboard Music Awards reached 6.2/10 share or 9.8 million U.S. viewers, an increase from 5.6/8 or 9.4 million viewers in 2002.
