A Time magazine cover story, published to coincide with the PBS broadcast, was part of a campaign to bring this issue to the nation's attention. Seventy national consumer, medical and professional organizations have been working with Moyers' On Our Own Terms team for the past year to mobilize their aggregate membership of 250 million. This early outreach created a buzz of anticipation and has resulted in more than 250 local coalitions in communities across the country, with public television stations playing a key local role.
