Warburg Natural Gas and Electric Utilities conference feeling that, while the company still faces clear operational challenges this year, it remains on solid footing. Bottomline, while Bill and Matt hate the pain they've suffered in DUK to date, they're not buying into the current panic and running for the exits. This stock is clearly not for the faint of heart right now, but they assumed 2003 was going to be another rough year for this company. Longer term, there's no reason DUK shouldn't regain its operating momentum and re-win the confidence of the street as the rumors quiet down, resulting in a much higher stock price.

ValueClick's (NASDAQ:VCLK) fourth quarter results provided a nice and much needed breath of fresh air. The e-marketing firm reported its first true GAAP GAAP

. Bottomline, these are very good results from VCLK, and this stock remains dirt cheap Adj. 1. dirt cheap - very cheap; "a dirt cheap property"

, you can basically still buy a growing $70-$80 million revenue business, that's now truly GAAP profitable and which has run rate cash flow of over $12 million.

The most important takeaway from TMP WorldWide's (NASDAQ:TMPW) conference call is that the company's core growth driver, Monster.com, is sound and healthy. Despite the strong growth from Monster, and even keel performance at its other divisions, TMPW's primary Achilles heel Achilles heel

remains its staffing business. This business, which will be spun off at the end of March along with TMPW's executive recruitment arm, lost $20 million in Q4 (-13 cents), and dragged TMPW as a whole into the red (-5 cents EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) A PostScript file format used to transfer a graphic image between applications and platforms. EPS files contain PostScript code as well as an optional preview image in TIFF, WMF, PICT or EPSI, the latter being an ASCII-only format. ) for the quarter. Whereas Monster and the other divisions hit their numbers, staffing missed its revenue targets by 10%.

In other words, if you strip out the staffing and executive recruitment businesses that will soon be spun out, TMPW's remaining Monster and other divisions should generate close to $650 million in revenues in 2003, with north of $85 million in operating profits. With TMPW's market cap now at less than $1 billion, or 20x currently depressed cash flow (due to investments and the weak economy) and just 1.5x sales, this company is looking like a tasty bargain.
