THIS IS Kathryn Jenkins, the 24-year-old mezzo-soprano who has just won a Classical Brit for Album Of The Year. Less than two years ago, she was the music teacher at several comprehensive schools in South Wales.

I don't know about you, but my music teacher wasn't anything like this. He was an unusual-looking, malodorous individual who spent the entire lesson playing pocket billiards. Miss Jenkins, however, is... well, words fail me. Would it be deplorable sexism to talk about her remarkable pair of lungs? Yes, I thought it might be. Sorry.
