Bill 'will help improve bus services'.


BUS passengers in Coventry and the West Midlands West Midlands, former metropolitan county, central England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Birmingham conurbation and comprised seven metropolitan districts: Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Birmingham, Solihull,  could enjoy better services under government plans to give greater powers to Centro-WMPTA - the region's public transport co-ordinator.

The Department for Transport has published a draft Bill which would give Centro the power to take local action to meet local transport needs.

Chief executive Geoff Inskip said: "We want to work with responsible bus companies so that the passenger gets a more reliable, cleaner and punctual punc·tu·al

"I'm pleased that the government has recognised the challenges we face and is prepared to give us the tools we need to do the job."

Cllr Gary Clarke, chairman of Centro-WMPTA, said: "This Bill, if approved, will help us deliver the right type of improvements.

"This Bill would give us the opportunity to work even more effectively with our partners in providing a top quality bus service that is part of a comprehensive and integrated transport network The Integrated Transport Network (ITN) is an Ordnance Survey dataset containing details of the transport network for Great Britain. It is part of the OS MasterMap set of products.

Integrated Transport Network data are supplied in Geography Markup Language file format.
