OmanCOs premier fabrication company has opened a new facility in the Industrial Port of Sohar which is developing into a busy industrial hub with petrochemical and metal companies already housed there. Bilad OmanCOs new fabrication yard will complement one that the company has been operating at the Rusayl Industrial Estate, near Muscat city, for the past 30 years. General manager Mohnish Katyal said the Sohar facility is currently working on fabricating structural steel requirements for Petroleum Development OmanCOs (PDO) Saih Rawl depletion compression project. The new yard has capacity to process more than 2,000 tonnes of steel per month against 700 tonnes in Rusayl. Bilad Oman designs, fabricates and erects pre-engineered steel buildings while also fabricating water fuel tanks and precast moulds and implementing mechanical erection jobs It specialises in multi-tier construction for industrial and commercial facilities; making beam pumps for petroleum industries; pipe racks, platforms and pipe support systems for PDO and conveyor silos and their supporting structure for highway bridges. Other specialised fields include submersible pump attachments, the assembly of containerised rooms for generators and control panels, construction of communication and transmission towers and fabrication of turbine houses for power stations. The company, part of the Suhail Bahwan Group (Holding) LLC, has the ISO 9001 certification for the design, production and installation of structural steel buildings and storage tanks. Helping in the implementation of projects is a computer design facility. As well as work for PDOCOs Saih-Rawl depletion compression project, the company is currently engaged in building steel structures for the Central Processing Facilities at Mukhaizna and the Qarn-Alam steam injection project, building a new terminal pier and a link bridge at Muscat International Airport and constructing drydock and shipyard facilities at Duqm Port. All of Bilad OmanCOs ongoing projects except Duqm Port will be completed by the end of this year, Katyal said. At $10 million, the port is also the highest valued of the companyCOs ongoing contracts. According to Katyal, Bilad Oman has over the years designed, fabricated and erected a large number of structural steel buildings, warehouses and water and fuel tanks in conformity with British, American and other international standards for leading clients, some of whom he named as PDO, the Omani Ministry of Defence, the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Shell Markets, the Oman Refinery and the Diwan of Royal Court Affairs. Among major projects it worked on were the Oman LNG downstream facilities for contractors Chiyoda, Japan, and Foster Wheeler, UK; the Ghubrah power and desalination plant- Phase 3 with Inter-Beton BV of Holland and Hitachi-Zosen, Japan, and Phase 4 with John Brown Engineering, UK; Saih-Rawl integration power station project for Stone and Webster, USA, and the diesel hydro de-suphurisation project of Oman Refinery Company for SK Engineering and Construction Company, South Korea. Bilad Oman also accomplished a job involving 1,700 tonnes of structural steel for Oman Cement Company and delivered exhaust systems for the Barka desalination plant, Phase 1, a project at Ras Laffan, Qatar, and Tabouk Power Station in Saudi Arabia. It delivered pipe racks and a platform for the Oman-India fertiliser plant in Sur, platform structures for a refinery in Sohar and pipes and approach trestles for a bulk liquid berth at Sohar.
