Biggest gets bigger.


The world's largest record label - Universal Music - has agreed to buy Dreamworks Records DreamWorks Records was an American record label active from 1996 to 2005.

In 1996, six years after David Geffen sold Geffen Records to Mushroom Records, he joined Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg to form DreamWorks SKG, which included the subsidiary DreamWorks Records.

Last week, Sony Music - the second-largest music company - said it was planning to merge with Bertelsmann. Dreamworks Records is the music unit of the Dreamworks entertainment company which was formed in 1994 by film and music moguls Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen.

Mo Ostin, principal executive at DreamWorks Records, said: "Despite the challenges of the business, Universal is acquiring a wonderful asset. The sale means the strongest possible future for our artists."
