Bigger Boards Better?


A governing board Noun 1. governing board - a board that manages the affairs of an institution
board - a committee having supervisory powers; "the board has seven members"
 with a larger membership often means better performance ... when it comes to the organization's bottom line.

That's the conclusion drawn by two professors at Indiana Indiana, state, United States
Indiana, midwestern state in the N central United States. It is bordered by Lake Michigan and the state of Michigan (N), Ohio (E), Kentucky, across the Ohio R. (S), and Illinois (W).
 University's Kelley School of Business The Kelley School of Business of Indiana University is one of the top ranked business schools in the USA. It is home to approximately 4,600 full-time students on its Bloomington campus and approximately 1,200 students on its Indianapolis campus. . They reviewed 27 studies on the size of governing boards, covering 20,620 firms. Boards ranged in size from six to 22 directors.

The benefit of a big board, the researchers said in their own recent study, may be its greater ability to obtain critical resources. Still, they don't don't

 recommend 30-member boards, but suggest there are good reasons to opt for nine instead of six board members.
