Big move.


When something's in the way, you move it. That was easier said than done in Auburndale, Florida Auburndale is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,032 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S Census estimates of 2005, the city had a population of 12,381. , when the somethings were giant live oaks at a large construction site.

One of the live oak trees weighed 353 tons (Transparent Optical Networking Services) A marketing term for providing dark fiber to a customer. The customer is responsible for generating the transmission signal and interpreting it at the other end. See dark fiber.  and had a 42-foot rootball, the other weighed 326 tons and had a 35-foot rootball.

The desire was to save the trees, so The Davey Davey may refer to:
  • Davey, Nebraska
  • Davey Allison, former NASCAR race car driver
  • Davey Armstrong, American boxer
  • Davey Street, Hobart
  • Davey Havok, The stage name of David Marchand, lead vocalist of AFI.
 Tree Expert Company was hired to move them. Havery Binkney, supervisor at Davey's National Tree Moving branch, described the larger tree's rootball as "definitely the largest in our history."

The process took six weeks from beginning to new "home." Workers dug around the rootballs by hand to a depth of three feet, then cut the roots with handsaws, excavated the soil, and prepared it with burlap and wire. Pipes were used to create a platform under each of the rootballs. Each tree was moved to a trailer In communications, a code or set of codes that make up the last part of a transmitted message. See trailer label.  and then transported about 300 yards to the live oaks' new home near a wetland.
