Big game fever grips local Patriots fans.

Byline: Joni Koogler

Patriots' pride is showing itself prominently at Tahanto and West Boylston High School this week.

At Tahanto, Patriots' jerseys are popular apparel for many students, and on Friday the Students Council is holding a fundraiser where $1 earns students the right to wear a Patriots hat in school for the whole day.

In West Boylston, Friday has officially been declared "Patriots' Day Pa·tri·ots' Day

Tahanto Senior Matt Polnerow, known for his own quarterback skills as a member of the two school's collaborative football team, the West Boylston Lions, said he plans on watching Tom Brady Thomas Edward Brady, Jr. (born August 3, 1977 in San Mateo, California) is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. Brady was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft.  and Randy Moss Randy Moss (born February 13, 1977 in Rand, West Virginia) is an American football wide receiver for the New England Patriots. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998, and played the first stage of his career in Minnesota before a trade in 2005 brought him to the Oakland  with about 20 friends.

"I'm exited about watching the game, it's going to be great," Polnerow said.

Lions senior running back Bobby DeMarco is heading to the same party.

"I'm pumped," DeMarco said. "I want to watch the Pats win their fourth Super Bowl in the New Millenium."

"I'm psyched," Tahanto sophomore Jessica Cox said. "Boston is the best place to be right now. I mean, the Red Sox, the Patriots, and, hopefully, the Celtics and the Bruins, too."

Lori Tarallo's baking classes at Tahanto are really in the spirit of the moment. They're baking Patriots' cakes and cupcakes and offering them for sale to help with festivities fes·tiv·i·ty

"This is a good thing to do," Tarallo said last week. "We're having fun with it," she said.

While the decorations in West Boylston will say Patriots, a planned schoolwide pep rally will be all about the Lions.

Students in Tarallo's culinary arts class last week were enthusiastic as they spoke of the Super Bowl.

"I was really disappointed how the season ended last year. We were really close," senior Derek Martinez said.

He brightened as he spoke of the Patriots' chances this year.

"We've got really high hopes for this year, though. We want to go 19 and 0 and make it a perfect season," Martinez said.

Ashlynn Fratoni exuded confidence in the Patriots as she spread blue and white frosting on a Patriots cupcake.

"They'll do it," she said of the Patriots.
