Big burglar.


A burglar BURGLAR. One who commits a burglary. (q. v.)  barged into the Anchorage, Alaska, home of Brian Knowlton at 2:30 a.m. on June 2. Thoughtless and destructive, the burglar broke some dishes and took a box of chocolates, obviously ignoring his already ponderous pon·der·ous  
adj.
1. Having great weight.

2. Unwieldy from weight or bulk.

 waistline and 275-pound bulk.

When Knowlton opened his bedroom door, the burglar--a large black bear --was standing directly in front of him. Knowlton slammed the door and told his wife to get behind the bed, while his Rottweiler Rottweiler (rŏt`wīlər), breed of sturdy working dog developed from a Roman cattle dog introduced into S Germany more than 1,900 years ago. It stands from 21 3-4 to 27 in. (55.3–68.  barked creating bedlam. The noise encouraged the bear to back off and go downstairs, during which time Knowlton got a handgun and loaded it. Knowlton then went to check what was happening and saw that the bear was still downstairs. However, the bear only stayed down there momentarily.

When the bear began moving rapidly up the stairs again, Knowlton shot it four times, making it back off once more. Not wanting to pursue a wounded bear, Knowlton called the police. They found the bear dead in a bathroom. According to according to
