Big band back on wave of nostalgia.

THE big band sound of the Glenn Miller Orchestra comes back to Llandudno's Venue Cymru on a wave of nostalgia later this month.

Staying true to its World War II roots, the band recreates the sounds of the 1940s and features the vocals of Jan Messeder and Colin Anthony as well as the smooth harmonies of The Moonlight Serenaders and the swinging jazz sounds of the Uptown Hall Gang.

And special guests Irresistible, who were semi-finalists on Britain's Got Talent a couple of years ago, are guaranteed to send shivers down a few spines with their recreation of the harmonies that made the Andrews Sisters famous.

The current Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1988 as a tribute to the great musician, composer and conductor, who died tragically in an air crash during World War II.

Conducted by Ray McVey it is packed with star musicians who have played in the world's greatest big bands, including the orchestras of Benny Goodman, Nelson Riddle, Billy May and Frank Sinatra.

And they'll play original arrangements of classic wartime chart toppers including: In the Mood, Glenn Miller's signature tune Moonlight Serenade, American Patrol and a tribute to the big bands.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK has maintained the exact line-up on stage devised by Glenn, consisting of the leader, five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones and three rhythm plus a male and female vocalist.

The singers perform both individually and as part of The Moonlight Serenaders vocal group.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra is at Venue Cymru on July 26.
