Big Thumb's up to the Ultracrete BBA/HAPAS Approved Ironwork Reinstatement System in London...

London Borough of Hillingdon has recently switched to using the full ULTRACRETE BBA/HAPAS Ironwork Reinstatement System to carry out all maintenance work on their highways. As a result they have saved time and money, and not had one failure since adapting to the new system.

When previously using sand and cement to reinstate manhole covers they found they were continually re-visiting sections of road to carry out continued maintenance work. The volume of traffic on their roads, meant that a lot of stress was being placed upon sections of the highway. This resulted in continual ironwork failings and, as a consequence of this, costly frequent repairs.

David Youell, Area Sales Manager for Ultracrete, visited the London Borough to see if he could come up with a solution to their problems, introducing them to the Ultracrete BBA/HAPAS Approved Ironwork Reinstatement system.

The system represents a unique approach to the specialist aspect of Ironwork Reinstatements. It is fully BBA/HAPAS approved as a first time permanent repair to footways, footpaths, cycle tracks and class 2, 3 and 4 carriageways, providing the contractor with no split liability, and a minimum anticipated service life of 5 years.

Once the system was introduced a live demonstration was organised where the Ultracrete products were used to reinstate a manhole cover. The System consists of Ultracrete Envirobed high performance bedding mortar, Ultracrete PY4 polyester resin fast setting bedding mortar, Ultracrete M60 rapid strength bedding mortar, Ultracrete QC10 rapid strength concrete, Ultracrete SCJ spray applied bitumen cold joint sealer and Ultracrete Instant Road Repair (IRR) cold lay macadam.

This successful demonstration supplied the council not only with a high performance system to complete manhole repairs, but also a system that was environmentally friendly, provided a 1st time permenant solution, reduced second visits to site, saved time and money through efficiency and ease of use; all additional benefits alongside a long term solution that conforms to the highest of standards of the BBA/HAPAS mark of approval.

The London Borough of Hillingdon's Council has now fully adopted the system for all highways contracts. Since they started using the full BBA/HAPAS Ironwork reinstatement system they have not had one failure.
