Big Spin Contestants Win More Than $280,000.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1998--This week's taping of the California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  Lottery's "The Big Spin " Show gave contestants a total of $282,500.

The show is scheduled to air on Nov. 14, 1998, in 12 television markets statewide.

Umedkumar Prajapati from Anaheim, has been playing Fantasy 5 for years. "My wife never thought I'd win," said Prajapati, as he sat back with a big smile on his face. "Now we can go on vacation." Prajapati won $40,000. The last Fantasy 5 Dream Machine contestant for the day was Louie B. Johnson. Johnson, now retired, formally worked for Aerospace. "Now I'll be able to go on vacation and fix up my house," Johnson said after winning $55,000.

The Fantasy 5 machine allows contestants up to five chances to launch one ball at a time into one of the five bins in the pinball-type game, each bin representing a cash amount. Prizes are cumulative, but only one ball may land in each bin to claim the prize amount.

The California Lottery lottery, scheme for distributing prizes by lot or other method of chance selection to persons who have paid for the opportunity to win. The term is not applicable when lots are drawn without payment by the interested parties to determine some matter, e.g.  sells its products through a network of nearly 19,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 51.5 of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools, and 14.5 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.6 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $9.8 billion for public schools and has provided an annual average of approximately 38 percent of the Lottery's total revenues to schools.

The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "The Big Spin " Show is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985. The show airs in 12 television markets statewide.
